City-level AI visibility

AI engines answer local buying questions differently in Mumbai and Bengaluru, in London and Manchester. A country-level measurement averages those into one number that describes neither. This is when that matters, and when it does not.

Why the city changes the answer

AI engines take the asker's location as an input, not as a topic. Ask which gym, clinic, dealership, restaurant or local service to use, and the engine builds its answer from sources tied to where it thinks you are. Move the question 900 kilometres and the brands change.

This is not the same as asking about a city. "Best gyms in Pune" is a question about Pune that anyone anywhere can ask. Measuring from Pune is asking the ordinary question as a person standing in Pune, which is what your buyer actually does, and it returns a different answer.

When a country number is not enough

For a great many brands, a country-level measurement is the right unit and a city cut is noise. Be honest with yourself about which you are.

  • It matters when the category is served locally: clinics, gyms, dealerships, salons, repair, real estate, tuition, food.
  • It matters when you have physical presence in some cities and not others, and want to know whether AI notices the difference.
  • It matters when you are strong in one metro and want to know whether that strength travels.
  • It does not matter much for a pure software product sold identically nationwide. Measure the country and spend the effort elsewhere.

What AnswerTrace does here

AnswerTrace measures from a named city rather than a country default. The list is curated rather than free text, because the engines disagree about what a place is and only one of them complains when you name a place it does not recognise: a wrong place name gets silently ignored, and you get a national answer wearing a city label.

The registry covers 101 cities across seven countries: 42 in India, 11 in the United States, 11 in the United Kingdom, 10 in Canada, and 9 each in the United Arab Emirates, Australia and Germany. Singapore is the eighth country AnswerTrace measures and has no city list, because Singapore is already a city.

How this compares with other tools

Otterly.AI advertises multi-country support across 50+ countries on every plan, which is far more countries than AnswerTrace covers. Its pricing page describes that support at country level and does not mention measuring from a city (checked 26 August 2026).

That is the trade in one line. More countries, or the same question asked from a named city inside fewer of them. Which is worth more is a question about your category, not about either tool: if you sell in thirty countries, breadth wins; if your buyers choose by neighbourhood, a national average will not show you what they see.

What this does not do

The city list is curated and finite. If your city is not on it, measurement falls back to the country, and adding a city is a real change rather than typing a name into a box. Cities are added on request, as countries are.

How many cities a plan may hold is tiered, so measuring many at once is not something the entry plan does.

And the standing limit: knowing that you are absent in Pune and present in Mumbai does not make an engine name you in Pune. It tells you where the gap is.

Frequently asked questions

Do AI answers really change between cities in the same country?

For locally served categories, yes. AI engines take the asker's location as an input and build the answer from sources tied to it, so the brands named for a gym, clinic or dealership question change between metros. For a software product sold identically nationwide, the difference is usually small.

How many cities can AnswerTrace measure from?

101, across seven countries: 42 in India, 11 in the United States, 11 in the United Kingdom, 10 in Canada, and 9 each in the United Arab Emirates, Australia and Germany. Singapore is the eighth country AnswerTrace measures and has no city list because Singapore is already a city.

Is measuring from a city the same as asking about a city?

No, and the difference matters. "Best gyms in Pune" is a question about Pune that anyone can ask from anywhere. Measuring from Pune asks the ordinary question as a person standing in Pune, which is what your buyer does, and it returns a different answer.

Do other AI visibility tools measure by city?

Not on their published plans. Otterly.AI advertises 50+ countries and describes that support at country level, with no mention of city measurement on its pricing page (checked 26 August 2026). That is a real advantage for them on breadth and a real gap on depth.
